BBV\u2019s cosmetic research group is developing an alternative plant biomass supply, via a biotechnological process, to produce natural ingredients for cosmetics in a sustainable, stable, secure and safe approach. Plant cell cultures are established from different parts of the plant (roots, stem, leaf, seeds\u2026) and grown under controlled conditions. Culture environments are optimised and cells are elicited to improve biomass development and the accumulation of specialised metabolites in the cells. Metabolite profiles of calluses or cell extracts in suspension are analysed in parallel with various biological tests to identify the components involved in biological activities. The focus is placed on regional species (from the Centre Val de Loire region) such as flax or plants for which the natural supply presents difficulties or limitations such as rare grapevines.
