The platforms

Discover our 4 platforms, designed to support research projects and facilitate the development as well as the characterization of cosmetic products and formulations, intended for industry professionals and academic laboratories.

SALSA

Characterization and Identification of Bioactive Molecules

Thanks to the versatility of its techniques, the SALSA platform in Orléans (ICOA, UMR7311) offers services ranging from extraction using green solvents, to the characterization of primary metabolites (sugars, amino acids) or specialized metabolites (phenolic acids, flavonoids, terpenes, alkaloids) in complex mixtures by mass spectrometry (MS, HRMS), up to in vitro activity screening (microplates with UV-visible/fluorescence reading). SALSA has numerous MS coupling techniques (UHPLC, SFC, CE, TLC, and GC) enabling the comparison and identification of phytochemical signatures of compounds through targeted or untargeted metabolomics approaches, as well as through the use of molecular networking. The fractionation/purification step can also be performed to enable structure-activity relationship studies.

MO2VING

The MO2VING platform of CNRS Orléans (CBM, UPR 4301 – CNRS) brings together complementary expertise ranging from molecular characterization to multi-scale imaging. The cellular imaging unit enables the study of ingredient cytotoxicity, the analysis of cellular markers related to proliferation, differentiation, and inflammation, as well as visualization of the effects of ingredients on the structure and morphology of skin cells. The molecular unit focuses on studying ingredient interactions, skin penetration of bioactive molecules, formula stability, and the detection of allergens and proteins in formulations. The CBM also hosts a unique microRNA screening platform in France, which helps reduce development time and costs by identifying new bioactive structures from plant and biotechnological biomasses.

We Lab Cosmetic

The first entrepreneurship support laboratory in France dedicated to cosmetics

A Technological Platform labeled in 2023 by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, We Lab Cosmetic is located within a high-level academic research environment. Its primary goal is to support entrepreneurship and prototyping of cosmetic projects through equipment that enables the study of plant transformation, primary biological activities (in vitro and in vivo), and the cosmetic formulability of products ranging from liquids to solids. It also helps strengthen the links between higher education and industry by offering “Student Challenges,” which involve completing a short project proposed by an idea holder (student, independent professional, researcher, start-up) up to the proof of concept stage. Its activities allow for the pooling of equipment and associated expertise within a socio-economic response framework, engagement in strategic projects at the research/training interface, and participation in research projects aimed at more eco-responsible methods.

Cosmet’InnLab

Cosmet’InnLab is an innovation platform dedicated to the cosmetics sector, integrated into the AgroParisTech InnLabs network.

Located on the Orléans campus, it sits at the crossroads of research, experimentation, technical development, and training. This initiative supports project leaders, entrepreneurs, start-ups, and researchers in developing high-performance, sustainable, and innovative cosmetic solutions. Thanks to the expertise of the Chair of Cosmetology and a rich local ecosystem, Cosmet’InnLab offers tailored scientific and technical support—from ideation to prototype development and feasibility validation. By joining Cosmet’InnLab, innovators gain privileged access to cutting-edge laboratories, specialized equipment, educational supervision, and a dynamic network that fosters the emergence of high-impact projects.
